The Vale of Glamorgan council has introduced ten bicycle repair stations across the county to encourage more people to get out and exercise.

One of the new stations is based at Penarth Leisure Centre and offers tools such as an air pump which can also be used for wheelchairs, footballs, and pushchairs.

Public Health Wales has funded the repair stations and is closely linked to the Vale of Glamorgan council's Project Zero initiative.

The council wants to reduce its carbon emissions by 2030 and plans to introduce more walking and cycling routes across the Vale to limit traffic congestion.

Cllr Peter King, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport said: "It is great to see the Vale's new bicycle repair stations open for the public to use.

"With more and more residents using their bikes, it is important to us that we implement schemes and facilities to make their journeys as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

"Encouraging active travel is a key part of our Project Zero strategy, the council's commitment to tackle climate change."

The new repair stations also align with the council's partnership with the Move More, Eat Well project, a three-year plan which aims to improve the wellbeing and long-term health of residents and encourage healthier lifestyle choices.
