Penarth Late Night Christmas Shopping

The annual Penarth Late Night Shopping event is returning on Thursday 5th December.

Following very successful late-night festive shopping collaborations in previous years, Penarth's independent shops and cafes have again come together to offer residents and visitors alike an opportunity to indulge in some evening retail therapy - just in time for Christmas.

Shops around the town will be open until 8pm for some festive shopping and many will have special offers available on the night.

The streets will be lit up with the Christmas lights and many of the town's shops have decorated their windows as part of the Penarth Christmas Window Competition.

The late night shopping event also coincides with the Festive Bauble Swap where shoppers receive a bauble when they make a purchase (a lucky dip for customers spending £5 or over in 21 participating outlets).

This entitles them to a free gift or discounts in one of the other participating shops.

Over 30 of Penarth's independent shops are taking part this year so there are lots of chances to receive one of the baubles which are offered, subject to availability, so early shopping that evening is recommended.

Peter Knowles of the Shop Penarth loyalty scheme said "Shopping locally is vital for the future of our high streets which thrive on the rich diversity offered by independent shops and businesses.

''We can all play a role in helping to maintain this for the future by doing at least some of our Christmas shopping locally rather than on-line or in out of town shopping centres."

Outgoing Chair of the Penarth Business Group Mr John McInally, owner of Not Socks Again gift shop in Windsor Terrace added: "It has been another very difficult year for the High Street, and here in Penarth events such as these help small traders both to remain open and to receive a morale boost.

''Every person who joins in the event is valued and welcome, and we believe firmly that good and friendly service together with good products at keen prices are what makes the high street a unique and relaxed shopping destination, and one which we think many people are beginning to rediscover the fun in too."

Many Penarth restaurants, cafes and bars will also be open during the late night shopping event so why not make an evening of it by combining your Christmas shopping with some festive food and drink as well.
