Penarth in Bloom has not been able to go ahead like normal this year due to the restrictions enforced by the coronavirus lockdown but a number of local businesses have persevered.

Hampton's explained: ''The main event is sadly not happening this year, but in collaboration with Shop Penarth, Penarth Business Group, and Penarth Town Council, many of our lovely planters have started appearing around the town to help brighten everything for the summer.

"Penarth Town Council has loaned the planters to shops and businesses at no cost and the shops have paid for the plants to fill them.

"These lovely displays of plants were supplied to many businesses by Florist 64. Thanks to everyone who is taking part."

'Penarth in Bloom' was awarded a Silver medal for the second time as part of the 'Wales in Bloom' 2019 competition. The local scheme, which took place over the summer, saw over 70 independent businesses from across the town display planters outside their shops.

It was praised by judges for its community involvement and continued efforts in promoting floral improvements in and around Penarth.
