The Penarth Healthcare Partnership (PHP) on Stanwell Road has addressed complaints over some members of the over-75 cohort not yet receiving an appointment time.

Members of the public have complained to Nub News that they or someone close to them has not been contacted by their GP to arrange an appointment to receive the first round of the vaccine.

"I wonder as of today, how many of the 80+ cohort are still waiting to hear?" one said. "I know my father is!"

The surgery says they "vaccinated their thousandth patient last Tuesday" and that they are currently meeting Welsh Government targets.

"All patients in the cohort that we are currently vaccinating (75 & over) have either received a phone call or have been sent a letter asking them to contact us," PHP General Manager Sian Pugh tells Nub News.

"It may be that some of those people who have complained of not being contacted haven't answered their phones, the letters are still in the post, or, they are not in the current cohort.

"The cohorts we can vaccinate are determined by Welsh Government and the speed of vaccination is limited by the delivery rate of the vaccine to us and our ongoing commitment to the care of our acute and chronically ill patients.

"The deliveries we receive are based on the number of patients we have in each cohort and our supply of the vaccine which is distributed across Cardiff & Vale University Health Board area."

First Minister Mark Drakeford echoed these sentiments during today's press conference.

"The NHS is checking and rechecking," he said. "Anybody who knows of somebody who may have missed out - it is not too late at all, we will make sure that get an appointment."

The Welsh Government today announced that 715,944 people in Wales have now received their first dose of the vaccine.
