Penarth Farmers Market to Come to a Close in the New Year

The Farmers' Market, which is held in Westbourne School in Penarth every fortnight, will be coming to a close for 2020.

Myfanwy Edwards, the organiser of the markets, sites the unsustainable nature of the market in the town as the reason behind its closure.

She said to customers: ''It is with heavy heart that, I have to inform you that in the new year we will no longer be holding Farmers' Markets in Penarth.

''We have held markets in Penarth since 2002 and we have enjoyed meeting you all. Unfortunately, however hard we try, the market is no longer sustainable.

''We have made some wonderful friends over the years and we shall miss all our lovely customers. We will be with you this Saturday and on Saturday 21st December for our final market.

''This was not a decision we have taken lightly, but all things must evolve and move on, so from 18th January 2020 we will be holding a Farmers' Market every week in Cowbridge.

''We hope this will take away the uncertainty as to when the market is on. We do hope that some of you will occasionally make the journey to Cowbridge to visit us.''

The market will still go ahead this Saturday and the suppliers for the market day have been listed below.

• Emma the wonderful Flapjack Fairy, with her delicious range of flapjacks, welsh cakes, cookies and brownies.

• Andrea from Little Mill Products will have Homemade Mincemeat with Brandy and Spiced Cranberries to serve with Game, Ham and of course Turkey as well as her usual fantastic range of preserves, cordials and bakes.
  • Anne from Tregwilym Produce still has some of her Christmas Cakes available - large square, medium round and small round - all made to a traditional recipe as usual, and fed before packaging with plenty of French Brandy.
  • There will also be Cheese, Beef, Fish, Hummus, Olives, Poultry, Game, Preserves, Eggs, Quiche, Organically grown Vegetables, vegetarian and vegan foods, Custard Tarts and much much more.
