Penarth Dentist to Offer One Day Free Mouth Cancer Checks

Penarth Dental Healthcare is offering free oral cancer screening checks for local residents during Mouth Cancer Action Month.

On November the 22nd between 1-2 pm people can walk into the clinic, on Stanwell road, and get checked.

This service is free of charge and you don't need to be a registered patient to receive it.

Anthony Bannon, the practice principal, wants to encourage people to come along and get involved. He said ''we're trying to raise awareness this year for the event.''

Some statistics about oral cancer:

• The number of new cases diagnosed in the UK last year was 8,337

  • The % of mouth cancers diagnosed in the over 55s was 76%

• The increase of mouth cancer over the last 10 years in the UK was 64%

• Brits that lost their life to mouth cancer last year 2,701
