A dementia charity in Penarth has won a grant worth £9,680 from Western Power Distribution (WPD) as part of a fund that aims to tackle loneliness in the Vale.
Forget-me-not Chorus was awarded the grant from WPD's Community Matters Fund, which will allow the charity to set up a choir and bring people together living with dementia for an event scheduled at Christmas time.
Katherine Harri, head of Fundraising at Forget-me-not Chorus, said: "We believe passionately in the power of song to make a difference to those living with and alongside dementia.
"The generous support of Western Power Distribution's Community Matters Fund will allow us to bring our choristers together to celebrate the festive season Forget-me-not style!
"Inspiring everyone to participate to the best of their abilities, we show what can be achieved as Forget-me-not Chorus choristers demonstrate the power of shared song to improve health and wellbeing and strengthen community.
"Diolch yn fawr iawn!"
Alison Sleightholm, WPD's Resources & External Affairs director added: "The pandemic, with its lockdowns and social distancing measures, has inevitably led to feelings of loneliness and isolation for some groups and people in South Wales.
"We're pleased to be able to help tackle this growing issue by supporting charities that provide crucial interventions and help build better mental health.
"It's great to see the first charities and organisations receive their grants. They are providing crucial care and that will make a real impact on local lives."
WPD's Community Matters Fund is paid for by the company's shareholders and distributes £1 million a year.
