Penarth Christmas Tree Festival

By The Editor

12th Dec 2019 | Local News

The popular Christmas tree festival event attracted around 1,900 people to St Augustine's Church over the weekend of the 7th and 8th December in spite of the wet and windy weather on Sunday afternoon.

There were 49 trees on display for visitors to admire and singers and musicians who gave a varied programme over the two days.

As always, the standard of the trees were high and there was a wide variation of themes.

There were traditional trees designed with the christmas message in mind, as well as those from groups and organisations which included their activities and aims.

The entries are judged in various categories and there are awards of Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates.

There is also a vote by members of the public.

Each year the Festival benefits three different charities.

This year the proceeds will be shared amongst:

• Get Kids Going! which helps young people with disabilities get access to sport.

• Housing Justice Cymru which provides support and advice to churches which want to get involved in housing and homelessness.

  • TGP Cymru (Tros Gynnal Plant) which supports and represents vulnerable young people.

The members of the organising committee are grateful to all those who enter trees and who give of their time and talent providing music over the two days.

Without this support from the Penarth community the Festival would not be the success it undoubtedly is.
