A local sail training charity is on the hunt for volunteers to help run its education programme for young people.

Challenge Wales uses two sail training vessels to help people aged 12–25 years old learn about ocean literacy, develop their employability skills, improve mental health, as well as boost confidence and self-esteem.

Vicky Williams, a Challenge Wales trustee, said: "The Challenge Wales charity is predominantly run by our amazing volunteers who donate thousands of hours each year.

"After COVID, we want to provide more opportunities for young people to join us but to do this we really need the help of more volunteers to help crew our boats. Our volunteers are a wide range of ages, bring a wealth of life experiences, and are seen as positive role models.

"In return for their time, we can provide volunteers with training, the opportunity to develop their sailing skills and make new friends and improve their own confidence while having the satisfaction that they are making a difference in a young person's life."

People onboard can get involved in all aspects of sailing a boat, from helming and navigating to hoisting the sails and preparing meals.

No sailing experience is required to take part.
