The Welsh Government has announced it will deliver 125,000 all-age apprenticeships across Wales over the next three years with a £366 million investment.
The investment is part of an initiative to abolish the gap between the employment rate in Wales and the UK and get a minimum of 90% of 16–24-year-olds in employment, education, or training by 2050.
It also marks the beginning of Apprenticeship Week Wales 2022, where the dedication and hard work of apprentices are celebrated by employers.
Vaughn Gething, economic minister, said in a statement: "Skills and qualifications are the biggest single influence on a person's chance of being in employment, and on them earning a good income and offering a route out of poverty and protection against it.
"So, at the start of Apprenticeship Week Wales 2022, I am delighted to confirm this Welsh Government's commitment to delivering 125,000 all-age apprenticeships across Wales during this term of government – with a significant investment of £366m to deliver the programme over the next three years.
He continued: "Apprenticeships can help future proof, motivate and diversify a workforce – offering people the chance to gain high-quality vocational skills. They are also crucial to our ambitious vision for a Wales where no one is held back.
"I urge people across Wales and employers to see how apprenticeships can supercharge their futures this Apprenticeship Week Wales 2022."
The Apprenticeship Employer Incentive Scheme formed a part of our Covid Commitment to support businesses and workers in recovering from the impacts of the pandemic.
During the scheme's first year, more than 5,500 new apprentices were recruited.
