The Penarth Masonic Hall has won the 2021 'Penarth in Bloom' award at the Annual Christmas Planter Competition.

Chairman Gordon Shcumak and his wife, Chris, were finally presented with a certificate and a bouquet of flowers by Penarth's Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Buckley after the announcement had to be delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

More than 60 businesses in Penarth were given Christmas planters and the competition is managed by Penarth Town Council every year. "Penarth Freemasons have taken part in the Christmas tree competition for many years and are proper supportive of our local community," said Cllr Buckley.

"The display was stunning, and I hope this award shows how much we appreciate their efforts for Penarth. I would also like to make a special mention of the display by the Penarth Eye Centre which was also top class."

The Freemasons have had a presence in Penarth since 1878. Before the current venue was built in 1927, members met in the Royal British Legion in Station Approach.

The Penarth Masonic Hall is licensed for conferences, weddings and events for up to 140 guests with a range of onsite facilities including a kitchen and bar.

If you would like to find out more about the Penarth in Bloom scheme, contact Penarth Town Council and find out how to take part.
