The Penarth Operatic & Dramatic Society (PODS) will be opening the live entertainment at this year's town summer festival.

More than twenty members of the amateur theatre group's musical department will take to the stage at midday on July 16 with a set that will include classic songs from Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You.

Kim Herniman, PODS head of Musicals, said "This is a great honour for PODS and very fitting as we have provided entertainment for the community for almost 100 years.

"It feels right that we'll be able to this as part of the summer festival as well. We take enormous pride in being part of inclusive community entertainment that is open to all and hope everyone comes to enjoy all aspects of the summer festival day."

The PODS drama department has recently started rehearsals for the stage adaptation of the BBC sitcom, The Good Life, which will be held at The Paget Rooms from October 12 - October 15.

The group has also started work on this year's pantomime, The Snow Queen, which will be a brand-new production written especially for PODS.

Penarth Summer Festival is on Saturday, July 16, starting at 12:00 and finishing at 20:00.
