Penarth "firearm incident" teen sentenced after racially aggravated attack

Local News by Alex Jones 16th Sep 2020

A 16-year-old who carried out a racially aggravated attack while wielding a replica firearm has been sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates Court.

The incident took place on Thursday 13 August. Police were called to Redlands Road after reports of hearing gunshots. It appears the noise can actually be attributed to the firing of blanks.

The teenager, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to the possession of an imitation firearm and racially aggravated common assault. He will serve an 18-month youth rehabilitation order with intensive supervision and surveillance.

This will entail observing a three-month, electronically-monitored, curfew between the hours of 8pm and 7am.

A 16-year-old Penarth boy, a 20-year-old man from Cardiff and a 16-year-old Cardiff girl have been released on bail in connection with the incident.

South Wales Police said: "All parties involved are known to each other."
