OPINION: Dinas Powys councillor lambasts Vale's traffic strategy

By Alex Jones 9th Dec 2020

Everyone who cares about their town has opinions about the direction that town should be going in.

Penarth Nub News serves as a platform upon which you can voice those opinions.

Today, Plaid Cymru Community Councillor Chris Franks criticises the Vale Council for their traffic strategy

For years we have been promised that there would no new housing in Dinas Powys without adequate roads and proper infrastructure.

However, over the last three years we have seen a huge amount of building not only in Dinas Powys but also in Sully, Penarth and Barry. More developments are in the offing in Cosmeston and Llandough.

The Local Development Plan passed by Vale of Glamorgan County councillors highlights what areas are to be earmarked for development but also improvements to public transport and to highway junctions.

Tory County Councillors were elected on the clear promise of a Bypass. Well, we have the housing but not any measures to deal with the dreadful traffic conditions.

Some contractors have damaged local roads, often ignored planning conditions and generally make life difficult for people.

A key part of addressing road congestion and dangers is the Vale Council's 'Traffic Management Plan'. Initially promised in June/July it was deferred until November. November came and went and no report was published.

However, in response to pressure from Plaid Cymru, the Vale Council has been forced to admit that a private meeting with Dinas Powys County Councillors will be held just before Christmas.

Apparently, details of the plan will be discussed at the event. There's no indication when residents will see a copy of this report produced a vast public expense.

The Vale Council has failed to keep the public informed and scarcely answers emails.

Quite simply, residents have been led up the garden path. There seems absolutely no intention to do anything other than build, build, build with no consideration to the communities affected.

The question is why are we putting up with this disgrace?
