The Green Giraffe Organic Day Nursery will expand on its four sites with a Penarth location to open later this year.

The nursery is scheduled for a September opening at Bradenham Place in Penarth town centre, joining its existing locations in Roath, Cardiff Bay, Cathedral Road and Pontcanna.

Andrea Collier, the nursery director, told Penarth Nub News: "We had a growing demand to open a nursery in Penarth. A lot of parents from our Pontcanna setting moved to Penarth after the pandemic and we realised there was a gap in the market."

"Also, with some parents, they don't have to travel into town [Cardiff] as much due to working from home and they requested that we open a nursery in Penarth."

All locations teach a Montesorri-style of education, where children are encouraged to learn through collaborative play, hands-on learning, and self-directed activity.

The nursery secured funding from HSBC to expand and buy the Bradenham Place site. "We've had a long relationship with HSBC and banking with them and my business support manager offered some help with opening a new setting," said Andrea.

"It was a very quick process and they [HSBC] have funded the purchase of this beautiful building.

"We're working on an extension to create a space for pre-school children so they can access all the Montesorri activities and access the garden when they want to."

The kitchen will be fitted on the top floor for staff to prepare meals for the children using organic ingredients.

All locations are bilingual with Welsh and English speakers.
