THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has reinstated a popular Penarth landmark by returning the beacon brazier to the town's cliff top.
Installed in 1992 to mark the unity of Europe, the beacon was lit for special occasions such as millennium celebrations and the Queen's jubilee.
It fell down in bad weather five years ago and could not be re-erected as the upright post had rotted beneath the ground.
The Council has now produced a new timber pole for the beacon, which was recently placed in the same location as its predecessor.
Cllr Peter King, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, said: "I'm delighted the beacon is once again standing on the clifftop at Penarth.
"This was a much-loved landmark and a symbol of community celebration when lit for noteworthy occasions. Hopefully, it can mark many more such events over the coming years."
