The Harvester on Lavernock Road in Penarth will be closing its doors this month and is being replaced by a Mediterranean restaurant.

The eatery which has been running for over 10 years in its prominent Penarth location said on Twitter today that its due to close on the 16th of February.

Some locals will also remember the property as the Schooner Inn which occupied the site before the Harvester.

It had undergone renovations in 2018 but it wasn't enough to keep business going.

Ego Restaraunt, a Mediterranean chain, will be replacing the long-lived Harvester.

Describing themselves on Facebook they state: ''Ego at The Schooner will be a must visit for its Mediterranean food, family-friendly dining, local cask ales and Sunday roasts.

''This Mediterranean inspired pub and restaurant is ideal for large groups, special occasions, family celebrations and intimate dining.

''Ego at The Schooner is the perfect dog-friendly pub and restaurant for four-legged friends and their owners.

''Our menu boasts a mixture of the best cuisine from across the Mediterranean including French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Moroccan classics.

''Our a la carte menu offers plenty of fish and seafood options, delicious steaks, pizza, pasta and paella as well as a large choice of vegetarian dishes to choose from.

''We also have dedicated vegan and gluten-free menus, a Sunday roast menu and two kids' menus for the children to choose from, so we're confident they'll be something for everyone to enjoy.''

It hopes to open after significant renovations in April 2020.
