Long queues are continuing today at petrol stations around Penarth, after panic buying in fear of fuel shortages began on Friday [24 September].

At Texaco Dinas Powys, there was no fuel left after a hectic weekend.

Staff were unable to say when there would be another delivery to resupply the station.

"We had a tank come on Saturday about 5pm. Then we ran out of diesel at 9pm last night and ran out of unleaded at 10.30am today," said one worker.

"We were putting two people on one shift, just to help out. We had to cap it at £30. We couldn't get off the till.

"People have been okay, we haven't had any abuse. But we were lucky to get that delivery on Saturday."

At Tesco Superstore, on Terra Nova Way, drivers were queuing round the roundabout by the Oystercatcher pub.

Staff there estimated they would run out of fuel today, with no diesel left at all. They did not know when a delivery would come.

Just outside Penarth, at Cardiff Bay Morrisons, the forecourt had been closed due to a lack of fuel.

"We closed at 7pm last night," one worker told Nub News.

"We usually get a delivery every couple of days but we've had one every day since this began.

"But I don't know when we'll get our next delivery. It could be within the hour, and it could be days.

"It didn't have to be this way though," he said.

The government announced it would suspend competition law to allow oil firms to target fuel deliveries at petrol stations that need them.

Officials said the move would make it easier for companies to share information and prioritise parts of the country where demand is highest.
