Be:spoke social, a Penarth based networking event, are hosting an event tomorrow with the Silver and Gold Olympic medalist and local resident, Hannah Mills. She will be discussing life as a professional sailor during the coronavirus lockdown.
Sarah Thompson, a freelance administrator and owner of Be:spoke admin arranged for the event to take place. She has adapted her networking sessions by using virtual meet-ups and this is just one of the exciting events taking place.
She said: ''In the current climate, we need connection, kindness and support more than ever. That's why we're going URL over IRL, with the launch of weekly, online be:spoke social meetings designed to connect and inspire like-minded, local business people with a passion for collaboration. These are difficult times, but we're committed to focusing on what we can do, rather than what we can't.''
On tomorrow's event, she said: ''Our guest speaker this week is Hannah Mills, a competitive sailor and 2-time world champion in the Women's 470 class, having won in 2012 and 2019.
''Hannah won a silver medal for Team GB with her crew Saskia Clark in the 2012 Olympics, and won gold in the same event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and was all set to return to Tokyo 2020 Olympics later this year to defend her title.
''We have titled her talk 'Striving, Thriving and navigating life in lockdown' and Hannah will be talking to us about motivation and success - something she has in bucketloads. As well as being an Olympic sailor she also has a passion and determination to make a difference to the environment, with a particular focus on plastic pollution and has launched the Big Plastic Pledge.''
Hannah Mills said: "I've definitely felt like I've taken too much on recently.
"I'm at an early stage with campaigning so it's mostly just me, battling through on my own. I'm trying to make sure I respond well to people and put in a framework to make it cohesive.
"I didn't sleep the night before Big Plastic Pledge launched. My mind was all over the place and I couldn't switch off. I've taken on so much, I want it to do well and make a change. The environment and plastic pollution is an overwhelming problem. It's been a juggling act, but I've loved it."
Hannah tweeted '#exhausted' to sum up a week in which she'd modelled at London Fashion Week and appeared as a delegate at the United Nations Youth Climate Summit. All this came only a month after winning World Championship gold and then silver at an Olympic Test event in Tokyo alongside Eilidh McIntyre.
"I've always juggled things," she insisted.
