The businesses which reside in Windsor Arcade have clubbed together to light up the historic building this festive period.

Penarth Town Council are responsible for bringing the town centre to life but the shops in the arcade wanted to have their own decorations on display.

This year they have all put money together, including the landlord of the arcade, to decorate it with large wreaths and fairylights.

The stores have also created window displays to add to the festive touches.

The owner of Windsor Tea Rooms set up the fund and also sourced the lights and decor.

All of the shops in the arcade are independent so there are no franchises or chains. Traders within the building want to encourage residents to shop locally this year.

Karen, the owner of Umpa Lumpa sweet shop, said: ''We wanted to make sure we decorated the arcade and had it looking nice as it is such a beautiful building.

''The landlord kindly donated to the fund along with the other businesses so we could upgrade the decorations we have had in previous years.

''With Shop Local doing so well it would be nice to see people coming to the arcade this christmas.''
