James Sommerin has confirmed the closure of his Esplanade based business and expressed the devastation he has felt at the end of his time in Penarth.

He detailed his account on Facebook. He said: "As a family, we're completely devastated about the closure of the restaurant.

"We completely understand the frustration of people with vouchers wanting an answer, please bear with us.

"We never intended for this to happen and with 6 years of us building something we were so proud of, to have it taken away, through no fault of our own it's really hard to put into words.

"No grants, no bounce back loans. We tried to keep things going. To be told we used loans and grants to fund a venture which has taken two years to come to an opening stage is really upsetting."

He also expressed that they would be getting in touch about vouchers as quickly as possible.

"To be threatened with Trip Advisor and reporting to Michelin because we can't give instant answers, I just don't know what to say. Please bear with us."

The Shed in Barry's new Goodsheds development will be Mr Sommerin's new venture which you can keep up to date with here.

You can also still get a taste of Sommerin's with their At Home menu in Penarth. Find out more about that here.

He has also worked very hard throughout the pandemic to deliver meals to hospital staff.

One Penarth resident told Nub News: ''I always said that Sommerin's food was the best in Wales. Of course, I haven't tried every restaurant in Wales but the quality was second to none and it was fantastic having it so close. It will be sorely missed."
