The Llandaff-based restaurant and takeaway, The Posh Fish and Chip Company, has opened its second branch on Glebe Street.

'Not your average chippy', the restaurant specialises in providing responsibly sourced, top-quality seafood.

Their menu consists of traditional dishes (think cod, pies and battered sausages) sold alongside speciality gourmet options such as calamari, swordfish and sea bass.

"We opened in Llandaff eight years ago," Cardiff-born owner Hamid Kowsor tells Nub News.

"Penarth is the perfect place for our second branch because it's a vibrant, up-and-coming area.

"There's a lot of footfall on the high street and a lot of potential to do good business here."

The new arrivals are by no means Penarth's first chippy. Nub News asks Hamid what The Posh Fish and Chip Company brings to the town.

"We have a wide range of fish, lots of shellfish - king prawns, lobster tail.

"We source locally and as sustainably as possible and we fry in sunflower oil, which is the healthiest oil to fry in."

Despite the high quality, prices are competitive.

Fish lovers can get cod, chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon for £6.25.

They opened with a "soft launch" on Friday and are currently open for takeaway.

"The shop isn't quite finished and we're waiting for a few bits of equipment, but we just thought, 'the kitchen and the fryer is ready so let's just get going - get the staff working and in the swing of things'.

"My father owned seven Indian restaurants around Cardiff and he really inspired me to open my own restaurants.

"I'm a trained chef and just really fancied a change in food and really love fish and chips."
