Alexandra's enchanted garden has transformed Penarth's scenic park with a series of magical illuminations and decorations to entertain the town this February half term.

Lizzie and Richard Rayner, who also run Figure of 8 Events, wanted to bring something special back to their hometown of Penarth.

This was a personal project for the pair and with young children themselves they wanted to put something on which all the families in the area could enjoy.

Nub News visited the local spectacle on its opening night to find out what it was all about.

The trail starts at Turner House where you are greeted with a goodie bag, a wishing star and a lantern to take along on the walk.

Guides are available for those that want a tour around the exhibit, but people are also allowed to venture out on their own.

The event is ticketed, and visitors are booked into time slots so that people can enjoy the exhibition at their own pace.

To keep every experience individual, groups are encouraged to use their imagination to craft their own stories whilst wandering the gardens.

Fairies, tied to lampposts, direct attendees to the entrance of Alexandra Park where you are quickly transported into the world that the creative duo has designed.

Simply put, it was seriously impressive.

Oversized props, like the giant watering can and the decorative umbrellas that dangled from the trees, were hand-crafted by students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Subtle sounds of the forest and soft music played in the background of the tour adding to the magical setting and ambience.

And yet, it was the lights that really brought the whole experience together.

They hung endlessly throughout the park, strung up in trees and wound around bannisters and structures.

A number of large disco balls were suspended from the thick network of shrubbery.

The fish pond, which is intricately decorated with fairies' homes, is definitely one of the most impressive features of the experience.

If you get a bit peckish, sweet treats can be purchased and marshmallows toasted on an open fire thanks to Penarth's very own Umpa Lumpa Sweet Shop and the Pudding Wagon.

In the centre of the park, underneath the bandstand, lies a wishing well, which gives you a chance to use the magic stars that are given out at Turner House.

Then you are lead into a light show, which was a particularly mystical experience.

An array of spotlights bounced into the darkness in a dazzling display which can be seen in the video attached.

The finale is found at the Wishing Factory where all the stars from the well end up and the story is complete.

It was a truly picturesque experience was planned down to the very last detail.

Most importantly, the rain should not put you off from visiting. In some ways, it made the whole experience even more immersive.

It is the perfect family trip and a must-see in the local area as it has something for everyone to enjoy.

It is one of those moments that, as a child, you could never forget.

The level of technology, creativity and attention to detail that has gone into the event is astounding and the magic formed from that combination can be appreciated at any age.

The couple hopes to make this event an annual occasion if the local community takes to it.
