An injured swan was rescued by Penarth Marina's berthing masters after finding himself in a showdown with their other feathered residents.

We spoke to the staff members who said: ''In the marina, we have two resident swans who live there all the time. They have their cygnets every year, usually about 6 or 7.

''When they are ready to take care of themselves, they go off into the bay.

''Sometimes they try to come back and visit, but the two residents attack any swans that come in (children or not).

''We quite often have swans coming into the marina from the bay but our two swans are very vicious.

''We often have to call Peter from the swan rescue sanctuary who looks after them and releases them again when they are better. We have done some fundraising for him too as he has no funding at all.

''The other day this swan (pictured above), not sure how he got in, was found injured at the top end of the Marina. It is likely that he got into a scuffle with our residents.

''One of our staff had to rescue him and take him out to the Bay where he was able to recover and go on his way.''

The Marina is currently closed to boat owners and so the employees are on skeleton staff. They just having minimal staff doing the minimum and are following government guidelines.
