Tony Hughes, a Penarth resident and employee for Cardiff Harbour Authority, shared these images with us of the barrage control offices lit up blue for the NHS and key workers.

Yesterday evening, during the weekly 8 pm clap for our carers, the control rooms were illuminated to support the hard work and dedication of those on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus.

Visit Cardiff Bay said: ''We were really proud to light up the Barrage Control building in blue last night in support of the NHS and all key workers.''

Mr Hughes has continued to share images of the wonderful views and landscapes of the barrage whilst we remain in lockdown and cannot always appreciate them ourselves.

Since midnight on Thursday 2nd April 2020 and until further notice, Cardiff Harbour Authority Barrage locks will be closed to traffic except for emergencies.

The Pont-y-Werin pedestrian footbridge on the river Ely will also remain lowered except for emergencies.

However, the control rooms are still considered essential work and so the employees have continued providing this key service whilst adhering to the government guidelines.
