The headteacher of Penarth's St Cyres Secondary School has spoken of his pride in the latest cohort of year 11 students after they received their GCSE results after years of difficulties caused by the covid pandemic.

Peter Lewis said: "I am delighted with the achievements of our pupils and that they have had an opportunity to show what they are capable of through this examination series.

"There is no doubt that these pupils have been through a very difficult and disrupted period over several years, but they have shown remarkable determination and resilience and we are very proud of their achievements."

Mr Lewis reveals that initial analysis shows 2022's results to be "the best GCSE results that the school has ever had".

They exceeded the results of the 2021 cohort which were none examination-based because of covid.

Mr Lewis concluded by congratulating the outgoing student 'not just on these results, but on the way they have approached their studies through what has been a very difficult period'.
