Griffin Books selected as finalist for Independent Bookshop of the Year

By Alex Jones 18th Feb 2021

Griffin Books in Windsor Arcade has been selected among 48 finalists for Best Independent Bookshop in the 2021 British Book Awards.

They are now up against three other Wales bookshops in the regionals.

The regional winners will be announced on 17th March before the nine finalists advance to the virtual finals ceremony, to be held on 13th May.

Other Welsh regional finalists include Bookish in Crickhowell, Chepstow Books in Chepstow and Cover To Cover in Swansea.

"To be selected as a finalist for Independent Bookshop of the Year really does mean the world to us," says Mel Griffin, the shop's founder.

"Thank you / Diolch to everyone who has supported us over the last year. It's been a crazy time and we couldn't have done it without your support!"

When introducing the finalists, the British Book Awards said:

"Last year was difficult for the entire trade but indie booksellers were perhaps at the very sharpest end of the pandemic.

"Yet as we can see by the 48 entries on the Independent Bookshop of the Year regional shortlists, indies tackled lockdown restrictions, an uncertain supply chain and the increased share of a certain e-tailer with vigour, creativity and innovation."

Well done Griffin Books!
