Gin 64 has announced the launch of their limited edition RNLI Penarth Gin to celebrate their 40 years of service and to help raise vital funds for the charity.

They said: ''We are proud to announce that we have teamed up with the Yellow Welly Gin club to help Penarth RNLI celebrate 40 years since its 1980 reopening with the launch of a limited edition small batch gin named "RNLI Penarth Gin".

They said: "The station's fundraising ability has really taken a hit under the COVID-19 crisis, and we hope this collaboration will help us raise much-needed funds.

"Throughout lockdown, the lifeboats have remained operational, with volunteer crew members ready to launch at a moment's notice.

"However, their usual fundraising activities, like the shop and branch events, have completely stopped.

"Penarth's affiliation with the RNLI first started in 1861, however, in 1905, the station was closed.

"Following a highly successful public campaign, an RNLI station was established in 1980, and since then the station has gone from strength to strength.

"The community of Penarth support the lifeboats by providing volunteers, funds, and ongoing support, and now, gin!

On the 17th June 1980, the RNLI opened a 'new' lifeboat station in Penarth, some 75 years after the original lifeboat station was closed – which operated from 1861 – 1905, during which time a total of 94 lives saved by the volunteer crews.

Over the last 40 years, Penarth lifeboats have had launched 1689 times, aiding 2267 people and saving 196 lives.

The Lifeboats are manned by a volunteer crew who provide a 24/7 search and rescue service, which is entirely funded by voluntary contributions.

RNLI Penarth said: "Penarth Lifeboat Station is generously supported by the local community and we are very grateful to Gin 64 for producing this limited edition, expertly handcrafted small-batch gin to mark this special occasion and to help raise funds for our lifesaving work"

£5 from every Penarth Gin bottle sold will be donated to the RNLI to give thanks for everything the RNLI in Penarth does.

You can get your hands on a bottle for £39.95.
