Penarth RNLI were called out twice on Saturday 3 July to separate incidents of broken down vessels.

The lifeboat crew were awoken by their pagers at 6.20am, tasked by Milford Haven Coastguard to attend a stranded recreational boat in the channel. After assessing the vessel's situation, it was decided that the safest option was to tow it to the safety of Cardiff Bay.

After returning to station - and a quick stop for a cup of tea - both boats were prepared and re-launched for a planned training exercise at 9am.

The crew then enjoyed a few hours of respite before assembling for their second call out of the day. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat launched at 17.30 to attend another broken down vessel in the St Mary's Well Bay area.

The vessel was unable to deploy its anchor and was drifting with the outgoing tide. A crew member was put aboard the vessel and the lifeboat towed it to safety in Cardiff Bay.
