Friday Call out for Penarth RNLI to Aid Broken Down Yacht

Penarth's larger lifeboat, the Atlantic Class, was launched with a crew of four to assist a yacht following a Mayday call.

The vessel was located approximately one mile east of Barry, in rough seas. The yacht had a damaged mainsail and the onboard engine was unable to cope with the falling tide - the lone yachtsman was very pleased to see our volunteer crew.

The sailor on board the yacht was fit and well but needed some assistance to get his vessel safely back to shore.

The lifeboat escorted the yacht into calmer waters and then into the safety of Barry Dock, where they were met by both Barry and Penarth Coastguard rescue teams.

The lifeboat returned to the station shortly after 5 pm to be washed, refuelled and made ready for service.
