Esplanade reopening to traffic delayed

The road works that saw the Esplanade closed to traffic last week are due to continue for up to another week due to delays.

The works officially entail "resurfacing" but have seen new signage and road markings to delineate the area's new parking restrictions.

The council's diversion signs initially said the road works would be completed by today (1 March).

However, a new sign recently erected states that the works will continue for the extended duration of "2 weeks".

A road worker at the scene told Nub News that material supply was the problem, though he was keen to emphasise that he was not entirely sure.

Councillor Peter King, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, has told Nub News that soil dislodged by a tree caused a short delay of "a day or two" last week.

He also said that the road may reopen earlier than a week's time, but is speaking to Council officers to find further information.

More to follow.
