E-bikes - not illegal electric scooters as one rumourist peddled - are coming to Penarth "imminently", says Vale Council Deputy Leader Lis Burnett.
You may have seen their docking stations springing up across the town (in Cosmeston, the town centre and the Marina) but the arrival of the bikes themselves was delayed by (you guessed it) COVID-19.
A shipment of the bikes, due in April, had to be quarantined in Germany following a local outbreak there. When the blue bikes are spotted around town, they have invariably been cycled here from Cardiff City Centre.
But, in a conversation with Nub News this afternoon, Lis Burnett said:
"The bikes will be arriving imminently. It will be interesting to see how this changes the dynamic of travel in the town, because I think - as long as it doesn't rain - they will make a big difference."
Cyclists use the bikes through downloading an app and scanning a barcode, which unlocks the bikes' wheels.
The bikes are then pushed back into their docking stations where they charge for the next user.
Some of the bikes will be assisted by an electric motor while others will be simple push bikes.
