Penarth Operatic & Dramatic Society, PODS, has scooped a host of award nominations for three of its 2023 productions in the annual "Glammies".

Hosted by the Glamorgan Drama League, the Glammies celebrates excellence in all aspects of community theatre and its appraisers travel throughout the region during the year, reviewing productions in order to arrive at the much awaited list of nominations.

PODS has received a whopping 23 individual performance nominations in the categories of Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance as well as Best Supporting Male and Female Performances for its productions of Treasure Island, Chess the Musical and Ladies Day. Two members of PODS youth society, PODyS, have also received nominations in the under 14's categories.

Speaking of the nominations, PODS Chairman Mary Gardner said, "We were absolutely thrilled to learn that three of our productions have been nominated for so many awards. I am so proud of everyone who has been nominated, as well as all of our other cast members and those who work so tirelessly behind the scenes".

"I also send our sincere congratulations to the other societies whose productions have also been nominated. Amateur theatre plays such an important role in all of our local communities and it is so heartening to see everyone's efforts recognised in this way." The Glammies award ceremony takes place on 9th March where the winners will be revealed.

PODS also celebrates its Centenary this year. Having been formed in 1924, it has been providing first-class entertainment in Penarth for 100 years. To mark this momentous landmark, PODS has a whole programme of events taking place this year starting with Shakespeare in Love.

This romantic comedy is a dramatisation of the Academy Award-winning film that starred Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow. It also starred Dame Judi Dench who won an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth 1 in what was one of the shortest Oscar winning scenes in the history of the Academy!

Shakespeare in Love is on at the Paget Rooms in Penarth from 20th to 23rd March. For tickets visit www.podspenarth.org
