Dinas Powys Medical Centre have announced that they will not be taking booking at the reception desk and remind patients with flu-like symptoms to call 111 or NHS Direct.

In a statement online they said: ''Following advice from Public Health we are no longer able to book appointments at the reception desk - all appointment requests must be made via telephone.

''Thank you for your help and understanding.

''Do not come to the surgery - If you fail to follow this advice you are temporarily placing the healthcare provision for the whole community at risk and could spread the Coronavirus.''

They have also been texting members of their surgery to remind them that they should not visit the surgery if they have travelled in the last 14 days and have symptoms.

A spokesperson for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: "We've advised practices in Cardiff and the Vale to manage their services as they feel appropriate, adhering to guidance from Public Health Wales where suitable, in response to the evolving Covid-19 situation.

"A number of Medical Centres are asking patients to call ahead to book appointments until further notice. Each practice in Cardiff and the Vale will be reviewing and adapting their approach, if needed, on a daily basis and will communicate this to their patients as and when updates are available."
