New CCTV cameras have been installed in Penarth as part of a wider service upgrade across the county.

As part of the Vale council's commitment to keeping residents safe, investment has been made into implementing a new CCTV service across the county in partnership with South Wales Police and in collaboration with Cardiff Council.

The scheme will see the upgrade of all 78 static cameras across Penarth, Barry and Llantwit Major, and the installation of new cameras on Kings Square in Barry, Penarth Esplanade and Cowbridge.

Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, the cabinet member for Public Sector Housing and Tenant Engagement, said: "An effective CCTV network helps to maintain the safety of our residents. It can identify criminals and provides a significant deterrent, reducing the number of offences committed.

"The new and improved system will enable the Council and Police to implement real-time solutions to local problems, cut response times and ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan continues to be a safe place to live."

The new network of cameras will be monitored 24/7 at Cardiff Council's control room and a new viewing facility in Barry Police Station, giving the council and South Wales Police the ability to respond to issues more rapidly.
