DINAS Powys Community Council honoured Dr Haydn Jones who died last year. He was a caring village doctor and a leading light in so many community organisations.

Councillor Jon Cowpe said: "It always ceases to amaze me how vibrant this village is and all the activities that go on throughout each year and the many people who contribute to all the successes many of whom remain unheralded

"The award goes to an individual in recognition of his extraordinary and significant contribution to this village. I quote 'whose legacy will continue to resonate through the community he served so selflessly for so many years

He dedicated his life to the caring of others.

His list of volunteering contributions I would struggle to have time to list today. We will all be aware of his involvement in Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern, Village Show, Dickensian Fayre, etc etc.

His music talents were immense and demonstrated not least through his musical groups - Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band and the Ecumenical 7."

The council invited family members to accept this local hero certificate in acknowledgement of the significant contribution to the community of Dinas Powys by Haydn over many years.
