Vale of Glamorgan Council's Enforcement Service is stepping up efforts to tackle Illegal waste carriers across the region.

In a joint operation with South Wales Police, several vehicles were recently seized for a variety of reasons.

The purpose of the exercise was to disrupt the activities of suspected illegal waste carriers and to identify criminal waste and other offences.

The team also issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for several incidents of fly-tipping in the Llantwit Major area.

Enforcement Officers undertook searches of every vehicle stopped and issued a number of on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notices.

Natural Resources Wales provided drivers with information on how they could apply for a waste carrier's licence.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services said: "Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence and we are making every effort to clamp down on offenders.

"The partnership between our enforcement team and other agencies has been highly successful and their shared intelligence has disrupted the criminal intentions of illegal waste carriers.

"Incorrect waste disposal can have a detrimental impact on the environment, and we will do everything in our powers to prevent and prosecute those that commit this crime

"We will continue efforts to make the Vale a safe and clean place for all to enjoy."

The council is unable to name any illegal waste carriers at present as this could undermine any subsequent prosecution that is taking against them.
