A special event is being held in Penarth to help Vale of Glamorgan's unpaid carers access the support they are entitled to.

Penarth Town Mayor, Councillor Angela Thomas, will be hosting a special Carers Rights Day event on Thursday 21st November 2019 at West House, Stanwell Road, 1pm-3pm.

As a carer to her adult daughter herself, The Mayor would like to invite everyone to come and chat to other carers and gain more information on your rights.

Supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council Carers Service and other services and providers.

Therapies will be available from Emma Blake Jones and Ann Williams from Soul Angels project.

This is one of hundreds of groups across the UK taking part in Carers Rights Day, which falls on Thursday 21 November 2019.

Carers Rights Day is an annual national awareness campaign organised by the charity Carers UK, which aims to reach as many of the 6.5 million carers in the UK as possible with information about their rights and the financial and practical help they are entitled to; including benefits, such as Carer's Allowance, breaks and access to equipment and technology which can help them in their caring role.

This year the charity is encouraging people to think about how caring might affect them now and in the future and what support they might need.

Carers UK publish the Looking after someone guide which gives carers the full picture of the practical and financial support available to them.

The new 2020 guide can be ordered from Shop Carers UK.
