MHA Ty Gwyn Care Home resident Joan Denning and her husband Graham were reunited to celebrate 65 years of marriage thanks to the home.

It was during a video call between Joan and her daughter last week that Neil Chadwick, the Community Co-ordinator at MHA Ty Gwyn, found out about this mile stone anniversary.

Joan said to Neil and her daughter she wished she could have a meal with Graham, her husband and without skipping a beat, Neil swung into action and starting putting plans in place for the special day.

Neil went to home manager Val Stan to request if Joan's husband Graham could join her for lunch as it was such a special anniversary. With Val's blessing, planning went in overdrive to make the day special for the both of them.

Neil contacted Joan and Graham's daughter Sue and told her of the plans being set in place for the happy couple. Sue was totally overwhelmed at what we were proposing and agreed to help us set things up.

Neil met with the kitchen staff to arrange a special menu for the couple and set to with the help of fellow staff members to make the plans come into reality.

The in-house hairdresser, care and domestic teams were all in on the plans with their own parts to play on the special day, giving Joan a mini makeover.

Joan said "I feel like the queen with all the pampering I am getting today".

The special day was soon upon us and all the plans Neil had made were put in practice, a private dining area and lounge was set up and decorated, the kitchens prepared a superb meal for the couple, and Neil set out the card, flowers and chocolates for the couple from the home.

Graham arrived at the home smartly dressed and eager to see Joan. Neil escorted them both up to their private dining room and sat them at the table and congratulated them both on their 65th anniversary.

Lunch was soon served and the loving couple were enjoying their traditional British menu with a lovely glass of bubbly.

Graham and Joan were both so grateful and overwhelmed with what we had planned for them and thanked Neil and the home for their kind and caring actions.

Neil said: "It was lovely to make Joan's wish come true and celebrate Joan and Graham's special day with them. Our residents may have a simple dream or wish but we take it on ourselves here in MHA to make it a special day full of memories and to let them live later life well."
