Cardiff Bus have announced that they will be operating an open-top double decker service to Penarth Pier Pavilion from 26 June until the end of August.

The route will begin on Wyndham Arcade in Cardiff City Centre before stopping at the Millennium Centre, Mermaid Quay, Windsor Terrace and the Esplanade.

It will run hourly, with the first bus depart Wyndham Arcade at 10:25am. The final bus will leave Penarth seafront at 5:54pm.

Adults will pay £4, under-16s £2.60. Groups of up to five people can purchase a £10 ticket, while families (up to 5 people, max 2 adults and minimum 1 child) will be charged £5.50 on weekends and school holidays or £8.60 during school term.

Non-group tickets can be bought at a discounted rate through the Cardiff Bus app.

The route was launched as part of the bus service's 'Summer Days Out' initiative, which will also provide additional journeys to Barry Island and Cardiff Bay.

"After the winter we've all just had, isn't it great to get out and about now the days are warmer and the daylight longer?" said Cardiff Bus.

"Our summer bus stops outside Penarth Pier Pavilion so you can enjoy a stroll along the promenade or wander up the hill to discover the tranquility of the flower gardens of Alexandra Park and Windsor Gardens.

"You can also alight at Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay if that takes your fancy instead."

The route is expected to enter central Penarth via the Marina as the double decker vehicle is too tall to pass under the Brains Bridge over Windsor Road in Cogan.
