Busy times at Griffin with literary visitors line up
By Nub News Reporter 2nd May 2026
GRIFFIN Books in Penarth will shortly be serving up a literary treat, with two special events for food-lovers to get their teeth into.
First on the menu is Matty O'Brien, the mastermind behind Matty's BBQ Chop Shop. From drumming on global tours to selling out his backyard supper club in Penarth months in advance, Matty is now bringing his fire-stoked secrets straight to home kitchens with the launch of his debut cookbook, Boots and Bare Hands.
His journey is as unconventional as it is inspiring. Two years ago, he ran his pop-up events from a domestic oven and a single chip tray.
Today, ten BBQ smokers hum in his backyard and his "Cue Fine Dining" experiences have caught the attention of Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt and made his Penarth cul-de-sac a must-visit destination for food lovers.
Matty will be in conversation with broadcaster and Bar44 co-founder Owen Morgan at the Paget Rooms on Wednesday, 6 May (7.30 pm).
Claudine Boulstridge is a British-French chef, mother-of-three and tester for Yotam Ottolenghi - she has tested the recipes in all of his books! She is passionate about family food and wants to show everyone how to transform everyday meals into flavour-forward, vibrant and healthy home-cooked dishes you and your children will love at any age.
Her debut cookbook, Family: Simple, healthy recipes for everyone, is packed with creative recipes and practical ideas to make mealtimes more delicious.
Griffin Books will host the official launch event for Claudine's book on Thursday 4 June (7.30 pm at Griffin Books). She will be sharing stories about her background as a chef and Ottolenghi recipe tester, as well as providing culinary solutions for health-conscious, time-pressed families.
