BRITISH Airways' last Boeing 747 has flown from Cardiff Airport to eCube Solutions at Bro Tathan business park in St Athan today, where it will be preserved.

The airline announced in July that all 31 of its remaining Boeing 747 aircrafts had been decommissioned because of the impact of Coronavirus.

The aircraft flew over Penarth and other parts of the Vale of Glamorgan coast before landing for a final time.

British Airways worker Paul Taylor filmed the aircraft as it took flight one last time.

Since it first took off in 1999, the aircraft - registration G-BYGC – has travelled 45 million miles and spent more than 10 years in the air.

Its last passenger flight travelled from San Francisco to Heathrow. The aircraft's retirement was brought forward due to the pandemic.

British Airways CEO Sean Doyle described waving "an emotional goodbye to the Queen of the Skies" in an open letter.

"It was a sobering sight and a stark reminder that life may never return to what we had so happily taken for granted," he wrote.
