Boy arrested after Cardiff park stabbing

Detectives investigating a stabbing in Gabalfa, Cardiff, have arrested a 17-year-old boy.

The suspect from Caerau, Cardiff, remains in custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a knife, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and assault by beating.

The arrest is in connection with an incident in Lydstep Park which resulted in two local boys aged 16 and 17 being stabbed just before 7pm on Sunday, 31 May.

They received medical treatment at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and have both now been discharged from hospital.

During the arrest yesterday evening (Wednesday, June 3) a 61-year-old man was also arrested for affray.

Detective Inspector Phil Marchant, from South Wales Police, said: "The arrest of this 17-year-old male is a significant development in the investigation and is the result of extensive enquiries since the incident was reported.

"We would like to thank the local community for the support and information we have received.

"The victims and their families have been updated and the investigation is continuing."

The stabbing is the second major recent incident being dealt with by South Wales Police. On Bank Holiday Monday another young man suffered life changing injuires after a stabbing in Barry.
