Offices in a Penarth building could become part of the town's Westbourne Independent School.

An application has been submitted by the school to Vale of Glamorgan Council, seeking to convert offices in Drake House on Plymouth Road into a classroom.

Drake House, which also houses the Penarth Jobcentre, is adjacent to Penarth train station and less than 100 metres away from Westbourne School.

If approved, the new overflow classroom will be able to house about 20 to 40 pupils.

A cover letter attached to the planning application states that the development would "enhance the vitality and viability of the area" by bringing a partially occupied building back into use.

The letter adds: "The proposed change of use will bring economic benefits by creating additional employment opportunities.

"It represents an opportunity to secure additional facilities and teaching space for Westbourne School improving the experiences for pupils and staff at the school."
