Artisans Corner shop window also graffitied

The Glebe Street art shop Artisans Corner has been vandalised.

The phrase "Art? Really?" was mockingly daubed on the shop's window on the night of Sunday 22 November.

Nub News cannot confirm whether the incident is linked to the far-left graffiti campaign that recently defaced an Esplanade information board with the Anarchist logo. This time, no anarchist or anti-capitalist slogans were depicted.

However, the incidents seem to have taken place at a similar time. Black paint (this time not from a spray can) was used in both incidents.

Guy Wooles, one of the artists who alongside Diana Mead and Steve John runs Artisans Corner, believes the incidents are links.

"Besides being an anarchist they profess to be an art critic too," he told Nub news. "It came off quickly so I wasn't really too fussed.

"White spirit didn't work but then we used the hand sanitiser we've all been forced to buy and it came off a treat. It's good to know hand sanitiser is multi-functional," he added.

"I was a little bit annoyed at first, but it wasn't big or anything. It seemed like a bit of a side thought. Honestly I found it a little funny. To write: 'Art? Really?' in graffiti is actually some pretty good irony.

"It didn't hurt our feelings. I was actually quite flattered that they bothered with us."

Mr Wooles says he contacted the police who say they will review CCTV footage.

"There's a camera right on the corner, right by the shop," he says. "I guess whether it caught something is a different matter."

Nub News is collecting further information on the matter. More to follow.
