AT THE SCENE: Armed Police Evacuate Dinas Powys Homes In Ongoing Incident

Armed police are attempting to calm an irate man as he shouts from a window in Dinas Powys.

In an incident unfolding since midday, armed police were called to the scene and nearby homes have been evacuated.

Large crowds gathered outside the area to catch a piece of the action. The man intermittently brands a butter knife, more often a beer.

Earlier a helicopter was spotted circling overhead in Penarth. We cannot confirm if this is related to the incident.

No one appears to have been hurt at the present time.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "We are currently at the scene of an ongoing incident in Caerwent Close, Dinas Powys. We were called at around 2.15pm regarding a concern for welfare.

"Officers including firearms officers are in attendance along with other emergency services and a number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution.

"We ask people please avoid this area at this time."

Neighbours have told Nub News that the man may have threatened to blow blow the gas, which possibly explains the evacuations and fire department presence.

It is unclear whether anyone else is currently in the house.

One neighbour told us: "We saw him yesterday, clearly off his head, staggering around the cul-de-sac. And then obviously all this kicked off this afternoon.

"We've seen helicopters, dogs, SWAT teams, the works. But they seem to be just negotiating with him."

Updates to follow.
