Employees from Admiral's Cardiff headquarters gave their time to spread joy to people supported by the UK's leading end of life charity Marie Curie across South Wales in the run up to Easter.

A group of volunteers from the insurance firm spent the day in the Marie Curie Hospice Cardiff and the Vale's Wellbeing and Support Hub creating Easter cards and making Easter care packages for patients and families.

Joined by Barrett Homes, another key corporate partner in Wales, they ran a donation drive in the lead up to the day with their efforts resulting in a fantastic amount of donated Easter eggs and treats. The volunteers used their creative skills to make cards, decorate gift bags and fill them with collected items including Easter chocolates, colouring books and pencils, as well as crafted chicks and bunnies made by the talented Penarth and District Marie Curie Fundraising Group. 

As part of the activity the team from Admiral was delighted to visit the ward to deliver the care packages to patients and met many staff while they were sorting donations and creating the treats. Staff at the hospice were very grateful and tearful at the generosity and thought involved and said that patients and families really appreciated the gifts.

Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals provide expert hospice care, whatever the illness, in the hospice or in the comfort of home, providing support to people with any illness they are likely to die from including Alzheimer's (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson's, and advanced cancer.

Thanks to the generosity of donations from Admiral, Barratt Homes, Barry Rotary, Penarth Fundraising Group, Morrisons Barry and loyal supporters, the volunteers were able to make up surplus gift bags and cards which were taken to patients and families in the community by nursing teams in West Wales and Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

Marie Curie Volunteering Business Partner, Lucy Kebell, said: "Earlier in the year employees from Admiral also spent two days helping to tidy and brighten the garden at the hospice, with daffodils they planted now blooming for everyone to enjoy.

"Everyone at Marie Curie Cymru is very grateful for their support and the time they have committed to volunteering already this year."
