7th May 2020 | Local News

The funeral of Penarth resident Alan Jones, who died in a fatal motorcycle accident in Barry, will be held on the 18th of May and details have been released of how local residents can show their respects during the current lockdown restrictions.

A motorcycle escort is being planned for the hearse on the way to the site of the funeral. Residents can only attend the escort if they live locally in Penarth, Barry, Sully or Dinas Powys.

It is imperative that everyone adheres to social distancing regulations and remains 2m apart from those who are not in your household.

DATE: 18th May 2020

MEETING: In the car park of the old Schooner Harvester (now EGO) on Lavernock Road Penarth

ARRIVAL TIME: 2 pm - hearse will leave at 2:30 pm.

TRAVELLING TO: Port Road East, Barry.

All riders that escort the hearse to the crematorium are then asked to leave the grounds afterwards. The funeral will be streamed live.

The funeral will be held on Monday 18th May 2020 at 3 pm at Cardiff and Glamorgan Crematorium, Port Road East, Barry CF62 9PX.

Mr Jones' wife Jude Jones said: ''As much as we would like it to be an open service due to current restrictions only 10 family and close friends are allowed inside the service, however people can attend the crematorium and remain with their vehicles ensuring proper social distancing guidelines.

''We have arranged for the service to be available to watch online as a live stream or to be viewed at a later time. A link for this will be shared nearer the time

''Alan would really love there to be plenty of bikes attending or riding along route. Understandably social distancing means anyone arriving on bikes cannot congregate in a group but must stay with their bike.

''Please feel free to share this.

''Ride safe. Stay safe. Use your mirrors! Always!''
