Andrew Smillie, the Penarth Sounds founder who aired Wales' first ever radio pantomime on Sunday (13 December) night, has commented on the success of the broadcast.
"The pantomime is a fantastic listen," he told Nub News.
"About 60 households tuned in live, with another dozen or so using the listen-again feature in the few hours after it was broadcast."
Jack and the Beanstalk: A Radio Pantomime was performed by Penarth's very own Red Herring Theatre Company.
Alex Wilson, who recently became the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Senedd 2021, wrote, produced, directed and starred in the performance.
He last week explained how the project came to be:
"Well we've been running Red Herring for six years, performing in various places including Penarth Pier pavilion," he said.
"When we did a A Christmas Carol there a couple of Christmases ago, it went really well. We had our eye on doing something similar this year, but then COVID came along and put a spanner in the works.
"So I spoke to Andrew Smillie at Penarth Sounds just wondering if we could potentially do something together at some point, and then we just sort of came up with the idea of a radio pantomime."
Andrew not only brought the performance to Penarth Sounds but also served as sound engineer.
He says the show is beginning to take on a new life outside Penarth Sounds.
"A few other radio stations in Wales will be broadcasting the show, including hospital radio stations like Rookwood at Llandough hospital.
"Don't worry if you missed it, you can catch it each Sunday at 5pm, and any time you like via the listen again page of Penarth Sounds."
