Members of the Penarth Business Group (PBG) will take part in Totally Locally's National Fiver Fest between 10 and 24 October.

Participating businesses will put on special £5 offers throughout the fortnight to showcase "the diversity and value of what they sell, and to thank the communities that supported them during lockdown."

The scheme aims to encourage locals to spend £5 a week in an independent store rather than national or international chain, and to thereby boost the local economy.

Angelina Hall, Chair of the (PBG), commented:

"The Totally Locally campaign is a great blue print to follow and we are very excited to roll this out over the coming months.

"[The campaign] encourages every adult in a town to spend £5 per week with an independent rather than a supermarket or chain.

"Believe it or not, if people in Penarth did this it would put an extra £4.3m into our local economy."

Local businesses are currently considering how they intend to approach the scheme.

Sian Fox, who runs Foxy's Cafe & Deli, has already decided.

"Foxy's is doing a Foxy's Lunch for a fiver. This will include gluten free and vegan options, and it will be on everyday throughout the fortnight," she told Nub News.

"I hadn't heard of the scheme before but I think it's amazing - I just wish I'd thought of it myself.

"It will be great for the town. The figures speak for themselves and if everyone gets on board then hopefully the high street will survive!"

"On a personal level, I can't wait to pop into all these shops and see what deals they have.
